No one
can stop the onset of progress and development and certainly our village
of Munxar is not an exception. After all, the inception of the Local
Council was the proper advancement of the locality without anyone or
anything hindering it unnecessarily. The Local Council has the aim to
create a village environment as comfortable as possible for its citizens
and also to serve as an attraction to visitors. |
 |
At
present, anyone entering Munxar can see the ongoing works regarding the
Playing Field project. Although we all agree that our children have
every right to enjoy their recreation in an adequate and safe
environment, our village has been deprived of such a place so far.
Although this is an ambitious project, its need has long been felt. It
will include the widening of the road, the construction of Public
Conveniences and a Multi-purpose room. Gatt Construction Ltd were
entrusted with the construction of the Public Convenience and
surrounding walls while the Ministry for Gozo forked out the amount
necessary to widen the road, construct the water culverts and the
necessary boundaries and perimeters. |
 |
The
second phase of this project will begin as soon as all the works
pertaining to the widening of the road will be finished. MPJ Ltd have
been entrusted with the construction of the water culverts, a reservoir
for rain water and the surfacing of the remaining area around the public
convenience. The base for the swings and other amenities to be enjoyed
by the children will follow suit. As one can see from the Architect’s
plans, these are planned to be placed on the tract of road presently
leading to Victoria. Obviously, all these works have been approved by
MEPA and ADT. |
 |
At
present, the tract where the garden area will be is being custodied by
the Joint Office on an rent agreement to a farmer. Nothing changed from
the original idea and the plans are still the same. In fact some of the
levelling works have been carried out already so that when the
devolution of the land will occur, most of the works will be ready. It
was not worth it to start a law suit because this would have stopped the
works and at the end of the day innocent citizens would have suffered
endless delays. Our aim is to have this project up and running soonest
possible! |
 |
On
grounds of sustainable development, we are obliged by MEPA to replace in
the area any uprooted trees with indigenous trees. According to the
approved plans, all the area can be turned into a playing field. We hope
to deliver at the earliest a playing field which will be one of a kind! |
